Gabe Kaplan, star of the popular sitcom, "Welcome Back Kotter," narrates the introduction, with Dr. Bob Sawyer narrating the rest of the film The film provides an explanation of asbestos, the dangers it poses to our health, and the importance of precautionary measures to prevent exposure. These include frequent building inspections and regular health checkups. The film was used to inform workers, contractors, school systems, and general audiences of techniques for solving asbestos removal problems, some precautionary measures for workers, and the use of personal protective equipment. A booklet was also developed by Battelle Laboratories and New York City schools, in cooperation with the Labor Department'sOccupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Cancer Institute-the funding agency for the project. The booklet "Asbestos Abatement/ Control Guidance Manual" was designed as a technical aid for specification writers, mechanics, inspectors, and designers who work on asbestos related projects. It covers such areas as guidelines for identification and location of materials that contain asbestos, asbestos abatement and control methods, work and inspection procedures, personal protective equipment, reporting procedures, and a number of do's and don'ts to be followed while working on asbestos removal projects.
